The baseball team got back on the right track yesterday with a 10 – 1 victory over Jacksonville Commons. L. Schopp picked up the win by pitching a complete game, giving up 1 run on 2 hits and 1 walk. He overpowered the Knights, striking out 12 of the 19 batters he faced over 6 innings.
The Pirates played solid defensively behind Schopp making several nice plays throughout the game. S. Sheppard snagged a hard hit line drive in the bottom of the first and A. Haymore made a couple of smooth plays at short. R. Beatty also continued his dominance behind the plate by throwing out another would-be base stealer.
Offensively, the Pirates bats awoke for 9 hits with every starter collecting 1 hit. The biggest hits of the game were doubles by R. Beatty and S. Sheppard and a triple by D. Flores. Pirate runs were scored by J. Thompson, A. Haymore, R. Beatty, L. Schopp, B. Bozard, S. Sheppard, C. Coplen, and G. Sheppard.
The Pirates are now 6 - 1 and have 1 game left this season. Next Thursday the team will travel to New Bridge to play for the conference championship. Thank you to everyone who has supported the team this season!
