Science, Social Studies

Hello my name is William Hunter. I am from Newport North Carolina which is about 20 minutes or so down the road in carteret county. I attended both broad creek middle and croatan high school. Once completing high school I took a year off of school to figure out what I truly wanted to do in life and that's when I realized that I wanted to become a teacher and help kids. I also really enjoyed both science and social studies in school as well. From there I attended Pitt community college in Greenville NC and got my associates in science. While living in Greenville I got to see how great of a place East Carolina university was, so I decided to transfer there in order to complete my education. I graduated in 2014 with a degree in middle grades education focusing on science and social studies. My plan was to come home and teach and give back to carteret county. However, that changed once attending a job fair for teachers at ECU. There I meet a wonderful assistant principal from a school in Richmond county NC called Rockingham Middle school. We made a connection very quickly and I thought to myself I could work and learn from her. So I did I have spent the last two years in Rockingham teaching 7th grade science, and also coaching both basketball and football winning two championships in basketball and one in football. I truly loved the area and school and thought I would be there for many more years. However, at the start of my second year I meet who is now my soon to be wife. She was born and raised in Rockingham, and was  soon to be fresh out of college looking for a job in a hospital. She was unable to find one in the area, so we began to look back home. As a kid I always knew that swansboro was a great place to live and had great schools, so when the offer came for the both of us I knew it was meant to be. I truly look forward to this opportunity and can't wait to help the kids here in swansboro while getting to teach both science and social studies now!

Thank you!
